Level 2 award in classes 4 & 7 is for aspirants who want to or need to work as MOT testers, in partnership with the DVSA to provide candidates with the necessary knowledge and skills to conduct MOT tests according to the MOT testing guide. After passing the exam, new MOT testers will apply for their Certificate of Competency from the DVSA and begin conducting MOT tests. You'll need a Level 3 Light Vehicle Inspection Technician certificate or an equivalent Level 3 certification before starting this course.

MOT testers have the responsibility of ensuring that all vehicles in the United Kingdom are inspected per DVSA requirements and MOT testing guidelines at an accredited MOT centre.

Eligibility

To be qualified to take this course and become an MOT Tester, a learner must meet the following requirements:
• Students must possess a valid and existing UK driving licence for the vehicle classes they wish to test.
• Aspirants must be professional mechanic with at least four years of full-time experience servicing and repairing the vehicle types being tested.
• Apprentices with four years of skilled mechanic experience are qualified.
• Students should not have any criminal convictions.
• Course takers must have a good reputation.

Level 2 award in classes 4 & 7 qualification is specifically designed for people who want to advance their careers by becoming MOT Testers. The DVSA created the MOT Tester Award to provide you with the skills and knowledge required to perform the MOT Test Routine. After completing the course, a DVSA Vehicle Examiner will observe you performing a VT8 Demo MOT Test in a live environment before permitting you to perform MOT tests. The MOT Testing Class 4 and 7 Award is indefinite. Your certificate will be valid for life after you have completed and passed the course. However, you must complete the MOT Annual Refresher Training CPD course every year.

IMI in collaboration with DVSA and the MOT industry had developed this course contents to mirror the National Occupational Standards for MOT Testers.

• Communicating with colleagues and customers.
• How to manage and maintain their Continous Professional Development (CPD).
• How to perform MOT pre-checks.
• How to Carry out the MOT test.

The complete course comprises a blended approach of twenty-nine hours of Guided learning and eight hours of practicals. IMI also designed the external and internal assessments for the students to get qualified. The students required to answer 40 questions in 75 minutes on the IMI online testing platform which cover all the content units. Students can also get an advantage for preparing from a bank of questions to get qualified in the assessment.

In short, the Level 2 award in MOT testing for classes 4 & 7 is to become a qualified MOT tester in the United Kingdom. However, you need to have a Level 3 Light Vehicle Inspection Technician certificate or an equivalent Level 3 certification before starting this course. The course will have an integrated practical and theoretical approach to learners who want to get the DVSA Certificate of Competence for MOT Testers.
