Pre MOT Entry Assessment

The Pre MOT Entry Assessment is recognised by the DVSA, allowing you to progress onto the MOT course for Group B vehicles (Cars and Passenger Vehicles). This course will assess vehicle inspection competence. You will focus on all vehicle systems including:

Your learning is comprised of 5 elements

You will find all our courses are easy to follow.  Assessments are fair and comprehensive, reflecting current industry requirements. Once you have completed the Assessment, you will be eligible to undertake your MOT Tester Qualification. The Pre MOT Entry Assessment entitles you access to the Level 2 Award in MOT Testing for Classes 4&7 if you do not hold a Level 3 qualification (or equivalent).

Element 1

Steering, suspension,
wheels & tyres

  • Inspect a variety of suspension systems including – McPherson strut, wishbone, solid axle
  • Inspect vehicle suspension spring(s)
  • Inspect suspension dampers/shock absorbers
  • Identify a range of tyres including run flat/DOR/radial/cross-ply
  • Wheel alignment principles including the Ackerman principles

Element 2

Vehicle
electrics

  • Check all vehicle lighting – internal and external
  • Check vehicle occupant safety systems (including SRS) 
  • Accurately diagnose vehicle electrical faults using various methods of detection

Element 3

Emission
systems

  • Carry out an emissions test on a petrol engine vehicle
  • Accurately analyse emission testing data from vehicles with petrol engines
  • Analyse emission testing data from vehicles with a diesel engine

Element 4

Vehicle
appraisal

  • Full vehicle assessment
  • Check for multiple faults
  • Inspect under vehicle including dampers/shock absorbers
  • Full interior check
  • Full exterior check
  • Full under bonnet check
  • Check vehicle body and structure

Element 5

Braking
systems

  • The component functions within a vehicle electronically controlled braking system
  • Use inspection documentation to accurately record vehicle faults
  • Carry out an inspection of a vehicle’s body structure and determine roadworthiness
  • Identify braking components which require replacement
  • Work out brake performance percentages
  • Check vehicle braking system for faults
