Level 3 - IMI ATA Accreditation

Light Vehicle Inspection (ATA)

Level 3 – IMI ATA Accreditation

Prove Your Light Vehicle Inspection Competence

Don’t have a relevant Level 3 qualification? The IMI ATA Light Vehicle Inspection accreditation offers an alternative route towards meeting the technical eligibility requirements for MOT Tester training.

This accreditation assesses your existing technical knowledge and practical vehicle inspection competence. It is designed for experienced technicians who can demonstrate their skills without completing a full Level 3 qualification.

The accreditation is recognised by the IMI and can provide a route towards MOT Tester training, subject to meeting the remaining DVSA eligibility requirements.

What You’ll Be Assessed On

  • Steering and suspension inspection
  • Braking systems and components
  • Tyres, wheels and road wheel security
  • Lighting, signalling and visibility
  • Vehicle structure, body and underbody condition
  • Recording and reporting inspection findings accurately

How It’s Assessed

The accreditation includes:

  • An online theory assessment to demonstrate technical and inspection knowledge
  • A practical assessment to demonstrate light vehicle inspection competence
  • Assessment against the relevant IMI ATA accreditation standards

Successful candidates achieve the IMI ATA Light Vehicle Inspection accreditation.

Who It’s For

  • Experienced vehicle technicians without a relevant Level 3 qualification
  • Technicians looking to demonstrate their existing inspection knowledge and competence
  • Individuals seeking an alternative qualification route towards MOT Tester training
  • Technicians wishing to achieve recognised IMI ATA accreditation

Where It Leads

Successful completion provides recognised evidence of your light vehicle inspection competence and can satisfy the relevant technical qualification requirement for entry onto an MOT Tester course.

The ATA accreditation does not itself qualify you to conduct MOT tests. Candidates must complete the relevant MOT Tester qualification and meet all remaining DVSA requirements before becoming an authorised MOT Tester.
